NCAAB: Duke takes over as No. 1 after beating Gonzaga

In his final season at Duke, head coach Mike Krzyzewski once again has the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Blue Devils (7-0) received 51 of 61 first-place votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday. They moved up four spots following Friday’s 84-81 victory Friday in Las Vegas over previous No. 1 Gonzaga (6-1), which dropped two places to No. 3.

This is the 127th week that Duke has been No. 1 under Krzyzewski and the first time since November 2019.

No. 2 Purdue (6-0) received nine first-place votes and the other went to Gonzaga, who had been No. 1 since the start of the 2020-21 season.

Defending national champion Baylor (7-0) is at No. 4 and UCLA (6-1) fell to No. 5.

Rounding out the top 10 are No. 6 Villanova (4-2) followed by Texas (4-1), Kansas (5-1), Kentucky (5-1) and Arkansas (6-0).

No. 14 Florida (6-0) vaulted nine spots for the week’s biggest climb, while No. 18 Memphis (5-1) fell the same number of sports in one of the week’s biggest falls.

Illinois (4-2) and St. Bonaventure (5-1) both tumbled out of the poll from last week’s No. 14 and No. 16 rankings, respectively. Xavier also dropped out.

New to the Top 25 this week are No. 19 Iowa State (6-0), No. 22 Michigan State (5-2) and No. 23 Wisconsin (5-1).
