NCAAB: Boise State uses second-half run to down Ole Miss, 60-50

Mladen Armus posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead Boise State to a 60-50 victory over Ole Miss in the fifth-place game of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic on Sunday in Charleston, S.C.

Marcus Shaver scored a team-high 13 points and Abu Kigab scored eight of his 12 points in the second half to go along with eight rebounds to give the Broncos (3-2) a balanced attack. Kigab scored four points on 2-for-5 shooting in the first half before going 3-for-4 in the final 20 minutes.

Boise State shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the field, including 28.6 percent (4-for-14) from beyond the arc. However, the Broncos’ struggled from the free-throw line, where they shot 47.6 (10-for-21), which kept the game closer than it could have been. Ole Miss made all six of its free-throw attempts.

The Broncos held Ole Miss (3-2) to just one field goal in the final 9:34.

Jarkel Joiner led the Rebels with 10 points, while Jaemyn Brakefield and Robert Allen added eight points apiece.

Ole Miss shot 36.8 percent (21-for-57) from the field, including a woeful 20 percent (2-for-10) from the 3-point line. They were outrebounded 41-32.

Trailing 44-38 with 10 minutes remaining, the Broncos went on a 13-4 run to take a 51-48 lead they wouldn’t relinquish on Shaver’s 3-pointer with 6:21 left in the game.

Ole Miss led by as many as seven points in the first half and took a 27-21 advantage into the locker room.

Joiner scored a team-high seven points in the first half, while no other Rebel scored more than four. Ole Miss shot 36.7 percent (11-for-30) from the field and just 20 percent (1-for-5) from 3-point range.

Emmanuel Akot, who scored six points, was the lone bright spot for the Broncos in the first half. Boise State struggled even more than Ole Miss did offensively, as the Broncos shot 32.1 percent (9-for-28) from the field and made just one of their six 3-point attempts.
