Detroit Lions quarterback Tim Boyle will make his first career NFL start Sunday in Cleveland, according to reports.

Jared Goff missed practice this week while recovering from an oblique injury sustained in last weekend’s 16-16 tie with Pittsburgh.

Boyle, 27, could remain the starter for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against Chicago, depending on Goff’s progress.

The Lions signed Boyle to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with a $1 million signing bonus in March.

He appeared in 11 games with Green Bay during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, completing 3 of 4 passes for 15 yards.

Goff, 27, ranks 25th in the NFL with eight touchdown passes in nine starts — only one in his last five games. He is in his first season with Detroit following an offseason trade that sent Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams.
