Seth Jarvis scored the tiebreaking goal near the midway point of the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes won 2-1 at Anaheim on Thursday night, ending the Ducks’ eight-game winning streak.
Ethan Bear tallied a first-period goal for Carolina, and Frederik Andersen, who began his career with Anaheim, stopped 31 shots to improve to 6-1-0 on the road.
Carolina has won three straight and 13 of its first 15 games.
Troy Terry extended his point streak to 16 games by scoring for Anaheim, which was amid its longest winning streak since 2015-16. The loss also ended the Ducks’ six-game home winning run and their 10-game point streak.
Wild 7, Stars 2
Kirill Kaprizov responded to being demoted to the third line by scoring a goal and dishing three assists as Minnesota beat Dallas in Saint Paul, Minn.
The Wild built a 3-0 lead to set up their sixth win in the past eight games (6-2-0). They got goals from Rem Pitlick, Kaprizov and Ryan Hartman. Mats Zuccarello and Alex Goligoski produced a goal and two assists apiece, and Victor Rask also scored and assisted as Minnesota tallied at least five goals for the fifth time in eight games.
Jacob Peterson and Jamie Benn scored for the Stars, who lost their fourth straight against Minnesota.
Blue Jackets 5, Coyotes 4 (SO)
Boone Jenner scored two goals and Yegor Chinakhov had the deciding tally in a seven-round shootout as Columbus beat Arizona in Glendale, Ariz.
Zach Werenski scored a third-period goal for the Blue Jackets and Justin Danforth added the first of his career in his second game as Columbus won for the fifth time in seven games.
Ryan Dzingel, Phil Kessel, Lawson Krouse and Jakob Chychrun scored goals for the Coyotes, who earned a point in consecutive games for the first time this season.
Oilers 2, Jets 1 (SO)
Connor McDavid scored the tying goal in regulation and also tallied in the shootout as Edmonton defeated visiting Winnipeg.
The Oilers’ Stuart Skinner made 46 saves for his second career NHL victory and first this season. Kyle Turris produced the clincher in the shootout as the Oilers avenged a 5-2 loss Tuesday in Winnipeg.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Jets, and Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves.
Lightning 4, Flyers 3 (SO)
Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point each scored in a shootout as Tampa Bay beat host Philadelphia for the eighth straight time.
Stamkos had one goal and an assist in regulation for the Lightning, who improved to 7-0-2 in their last nine games. Point and Mathieu Joseph each added one goal. Victor Hedman also had two assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots as well as both attempts in the shootout.
Claude Giroux scored two goals and Travis Konecny had one goal for the Flyers. Derick Brassard contributed two assists.
Flames 5, Sabres 0
Johnny Gaudreau and Andrew Mangiapane each scored twice to lead Calgary to a victory at Buffalo.
Matthew Tkachuk collected one goal and two assists, Christopher Tanev had two assists and Gaudreau added a helper in the win. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 27 saves to earn his league-leading fifth shutout of the season. Calgary’s last five victories have come via shutout.
Dustin Tokarski stopped 18 of 23 shots through two periods for the slumping Sabres, who have just two wins in the past nine games, before Aaron Dell made 10 saves in the third period.
Blues 4, Sharks 1
Brandon Saad scored twice to lead St. Louis past visiting San Jose. Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou also scored for the Blues, who snapped their four-game winless streak. David Perron earned two assists.
Blues goaltender Ville Husso made 26 saves in his first start since Oct. 25. He just returned from COVID-19 protocols.
Jonathan Dahlen scored and James Reimer made 44 saves for the Sharks, who lost for the fifth time in their past seven games.
Panthers 4, Devils 1
Spencer Knight made 45 saves as Florida continued its perfect home record this season, defeating New Jersey despite playing without injured star Aleksander Barkov.
Without Barkov (knee), the Panthers got one goal each from Carter Verhaeghe, Eetu Luostarinen, Jonathan Huberdeau and Anthony Duclair. Florida is 9-0-0 at BB&T Center this season. The NHL record is 11 straight home wins to start a year.
New Jersey got its goal from Dougie Hamilton, his fourth tally in six games.
Penguins 6, Canadiens 0
Teddy Blueger collected two goals and an assist and Tristan Jarry made 24 saves to help visiting Pittsburgh breeze past Montreal.
Jake Guentzel scored and set up a goal, and Sidney Crosby, Danton Heinen and Brock McGinn also tallied for the Penguins, who halted a three-game losing skid. John Marino, Zach Aston-Reese and Bryan Rust had two assists apiece.
Montreal’s Cayden Primeau yielded five goals on 31 shots before being relieved by Sam Montembeault (11 saves) to start the third period. The Canadiens have lost four in a row and nine of their past 11 games (2-7-2).
Maple Leafs 2, Rangers 1
Morgan Rielly scored two goals and Toronto got its fifth straight win by defeating visiting New York.
Jack Campbell stopped 27 shots to help the Maple Leafs win for the 10th time in their past 11 games.
Dryden Hunt scored for New York. Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves for the Rangers, who had their four-game winning streak end.
Golden Knights 5, Red Wings 2
Zach Whitecloud scored twice in his return from the injured list and Robin Lehner made 26 saves to lead Vegas to a victory over Detroit in Las Vegas.
Nicolas Hague, Paul Cotter and Reilly Smith also scored for the Golden Knights, who scored four times in the second period on the way to their fourth win in five games.
Givani Smith and Joe Veleno scored for the Red Wings, who took their third straight loss — allowing five goals in all three. Thomas Griess made 18 saves in the first two periods before being replaced by Alex Nedeljkovic, who stopped nine of 10 shots.
