NCAAB: Top 25 roundup: George Mason stuns No. 20 Maryland

D’Shawn Schwartz scored a career-high 24 points and George Mason upset No. 20 Maryland 71-66 on Wednesday night in College Park, Md.

The Patriots (4-0) led by nine with seven minutes left before Maryland (3-1) rallied to within one late, but the hosts couldn’t take the lead. It was George Mason’s first ever win against Maryland in 10 games.

DeVon Cooper had 16 points for George Mason and Davonte Gaines added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Schwartz pulled down nine rebounds.

Donta Scott had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Maryland, which was looking to jump out to a 4-0 start for the eighth consecutive season. Eric Ayala had 17 points, including three 3-pointers during the Terrapins’ late rally, and Julian Reese scored 12 points.

No. 2 UCLA 98, North Florida 63

Jaime Jaquez Jr. recorded 20 points and eight rebounds to help the Bruins roll past the Ospreys in Los Angeles.

Johnny Juzang added 17 points for UCLA (4-0). Myles Johnson collected 13 rebounds as the Bruins owned a resounding 54-24 rebounding edge in the wire-to-wire victory.

Carter Hendricksen scored 11 points for North Florida (0-5), which completed a season-opening five-game road excursion. The Ospreys lost the five games by an average of 18.2 points.

No. 8 Texas 62, Northern Colorado 49

Tre Mitchell scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Longhorns bounced back with a dominating win over the Bears in a first-round game in the inaugural Abe Lemons Classic at Austin, Texas.

Timmy Allen added 10 points and game-high eight rebounds to help Texas (2-1) recover from a loss at No. 1 Gonzaga on Saturday

Daylen Kountz paced Northern Colorado with 14 points. Kur Jongkuch contributed 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and Matt Johnson added 12 points for the Bears (3-2).

No. 9 Baylor 92, Central Arkansas 47

LJ Cryer scored 20 points and James Akinjo contributed 18 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and four steals as Baylor dominated Central Arkansas in Waco, Texas.

In an all-Bears matchup, the defending NCAA Tournament champions got 19 points from Kendall Brown and 12 from Matthew Mayer. Baylor (3-0) forced 29 turnovers, recorded 21 steals and limited Central Arkansas to 31 percent shooting.

Eddy Kayouloud scored 14 points and Darious Hall notched 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Central Arkansas (0-3).

No. 16 Arkansas 93, Northern Iowa 80

Chris Lykes scored 26 points to lead six Razorbacks in double figures during a win over the Panthers in Fayetteville, Ark.

JD Notae had 17 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for Arkansas, which completed a season-opening, three-game homestand unblemished.

Trae Berhow led Northern Iowa (1-3) with 23 points, going 7-for-11 from 3-point range.

No. 23 UConn 93, Long Island 40

Tyler Polley scored 17 points off the bench to fuel the Huskies to a rout of the Sharks in Storrs, Conn.

Andre Jackson collected 14 points and three blocks for UConn (3-0). The Huskies turned a 16-point lead at intermission into a rout after outscoring Long Island by a 55-18 margin in the second half.

Isaac Kante recorded 16 of his 17 points in the first half for the Sharks (0-3).
