NCAAB: Top 25 roundup: Seton Hall nips No. 4 Michigan

Bryce Aiken got to the foul line twice to score crucial points down the stretch and lift Seton Hall to a wild 67-65 upset of No. 4 Michigan on Tuesday night in Ann Arbor, Mich.

In a 62-62 tie with 1:15 to play, Aiken induced Michigan’s 10th foul of the half on DeVante’ Jones, who went to draw a charge but didn’t have his feet set. Aiken made one of two free throws to give Seton Hall its first lead of the half.

Michigan’s Hunter Dickinson drew a shooting foul on the next possession and made both foul shots. However, Aiken managed to pull off the same move against Jones and this time made both attempts for a 65-64 lead with 33 seconds to go.

Jared Rhoden led Seton Hall (3-0) with 16 points, and he grabbed five rebounds. Dickinson posted a game-high 18 points and finished with nine rebounds for Michigan (2-1), which gave coach Juwan Howard a contract extension through 2025-26 earlier in the day.

No. 5 Villanova 100, Howard 81

Brandon Slater scored a career-high 23 points, Collin Gillespie added 21 and the Wildcats pulled away from the stubborn Bison in Villanova, Pa.

Justin Moore contributed 16 for the Wildcats (2-1). Jermaine Samuels also had 11 for Villanova, which rebounded after an overtime loss at No. 2 UCLA on Friday.

Kyle Foster led Howard (3-1) with 19 points off the bench, Elijah Hawkins added 16 points and 11 assists, and Tai Bibbs scored 16 points.

No. 6 Purdue 96, Wright State 52

Zach Edey needed just 18 minutes to build an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double as the Boilermakers roared to a 34-point halftime lead on the way to a win over the Raiders in West Lafayette, Ind.

Trevion Williams came off the bench for 20 points and 13 boards, hitting the 1,000-point mark for his career. Freshman Caleb Furst produced his first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Wright State (1-2) was led by Trey Calvin’s 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Tanner Holden added 17 points and seven rebounds.

No. 7 Duke 92, Gardner-Webb 52

Trevor Keels scored 18 points to lead six Blue Devils in double figures in a romp past the Runnin’ Bulldogs in Durham, N.C.

After news broke that Duke star freshman Paolo Banchero was charged with aiding and abetting a DWI, he was in the starting lineup and scored a season-low 10 points to go with a game-high eight rebounds.

Wendell Moore Jr. poured in 14 points, Mark Williams had 13 points, reserve Joey Baker tacked on 12 points and Jeremy Roach provided 10 points for Duke (4-0), which won its third home game in a five-night span. Lance Terry had 15 points and Kareem Reid scored 14 points for Gardner-Webb (0-3).

No. 11 Memphis 90, Saint Louis 74

Tyler Harris scored 18 off the bench and Emoni Bates chipped in 16 points as the Tigers cruised past the visiting Billikens.

Jalen Duren had 13 points, eight rebounds and six blocks while Josh Minott added 12 points for Memphis (3-0).

Terrence Hargrove Jr. had a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for Saint Louis (3-1). Jordan Nesbitt scored 13, and Marten Linssen added 11 points.

BYU 81, No. 12 Oregon 49

Alex Barcello scored a season-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead the Cougars to a convincing victory over the Ducks in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore.

Barcello made his first eight field-goal attempts and also knocked down 4 of 6 from 3-point range for BYU (3-0). The Cougars led by as many as 33 points in a wire-to-wire rout.

Eric Williams Jr. scored 12 points to pace Oregon (2-1), which shot just 32.1 percent.

No. 13 Kentucky 80, Mount St. Mary’s 55

Oscar Tshiebwe collected a career-high 24 points to go with 16 rebounds and three blocks in the Wildcats’ win over the Mountaineers at Lexington, Ky.

Tshiebwe made 11 of 14 shots from the floor to help pave the way for his third consecutive double-double to start the season. TyTy Washington scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half and Sahvir Wheeler added 12 points and eight assists. The Wildcats (2-1) shot a robust 53.1 percent for the game.

Josh Reaves and Jalen Benjamin each scored 11 points and Dakota Leffew added 10 off the bench for West Virginia (1-3), which has lost two in a row.

No. 14 Alabama 73, South Alabama 68

Jaden Shackelford scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Crimson Tide produced a late 6-0 run to hold off the Jaguars in Tuscaloosa.

Keon Ellis added 18 points and six rebounds for Alabama (3-0), which overcame subpar shooting to stay unbeaten. The Crimson Tide made just 44.3 percent from the field, including a poor 7 of 27 (25.9 percent) from 3-point range, and were just 12 of 19 at the foul line.

Charles Manning scored a game-high 23 points for South Alabama (1-2) but also coughed up seven turnovers. Javon Franklin chipped in an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.

No. 15 Houston 67, Virginia 47

Marcus Sasser had 19 points and hit 4 of 7 3-point attempts to help the Cougars defeat the Cavaliers in Houston.

The Cougars (3-0) led from start to finish and shot 11-for-20 from 3-point range. Kyler Edwards sank 5 of 6 long-distance attempts and totaled 18 points.

Armaan Franklin led Virginia (1-2) with 11 points.

No. 18 North Carolina 94, Charleston 83

Armando Bacot notched a career-high 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting as the Tar Heels withstood an upset bid from the Cougars in Charleston, S.C.

Bacot also produced a game-high in rebounds (12) and blocked shots (six) for North Carolina (3-0). Caleb Love tallied 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Charleston (3-1) got 19 points, including five 3-pointers, from Reyne Smith, and Ben Burnham scored 17 points.

No. 25 USC 78, Florida Gulf Coast 61

Boogie Ellis scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished six assists, Chevez Goodwin matched the game high with 20 points and the Trojans rode a second-half run to rout the Eagles in Fort Myers, Fla.

USC (3-0) went on a 12-2 run midway through the second period, turning what had been a single-digit-point margin for much of the contest into a comfortable gap. Four Trojans starters scored in double figures, including Isaiah Mobley with 13 points.

Florida Gulf Coast (1-2) hung tough for the better part of 30 minutes, closing the deficit to just five points with 10 minutes to go. Cyrus Largie led the Eagles with 20 points.
