Makai Ashton-Langford scored 17 points Sunday to lead four players in double figures as Boston College improved to 3-0 with a 72-64 win over Fairfield in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Demarr Langford added 16, while Jaeden Zackery tallied 13 points and T.J. Bickerstaff chipped in 12. The Eagles never really put the Stags away but stayed in control behind 65 percent field goal shooting in the second half.

Supreme Cook paced Fairfield with 16 points, making 8 of 10 at the foul line. Taj Benning scored 14, while Jesus Cruz and TJ Long each came off the bench to add 13 points. But the Stags fell short in their upset bid because they couldn’t convert shots; they made just 39.6 percent from the floor.

The big run for Boston College came just past the halfway mark of the second half. Leading 51-44 after Cook canned two foul shots with 11:07 left, the Eagles scored nine of the next 11 points. Zackery capped the run with a driving layup after a steal to make it 60-46 with 6:30 remaining.

Boston College made 50 percent of its field goal attempts, including 6 of 9 on 3-pointers, and earned a 36-29 advantage on the boards.

Boston College wasted little time establishing the lead, but couldn’t shake Fairfield in a tight first half. Every time the Eagles hinted at getting some real separation, the Stags would answer with a couple of buckets.

A pair of baskets off turnovers helped Boston College grab an 8-3 lead just over three minutes into the game. But Fairfield worked its way within 11-9 at the 12:48 mark when Cruz scored in transition after an Eagles turnover.

Cook converted a layup with 8:46 left to pull the Stags within a point, but the Eagles kept them at arm’s length for the half’s remainder. They answered with nine straight points for a 28-18 advantage after a Langford jumper, but Fairfield came back and cut the deficit to 33-27 at intermission.
