Nebraska linebacker JoJo Domann said Thursday that his college career is over after he underwent hand surgery on Monday.

Domann injured his left hand against Purdue on Oct. 30. But he played against Ohio State last Saturday and had nine tackles and one interception in a 26-17 loss.

“For the past six years, I’ve been honored to play for Nebraska,” Domann said on Twitter. “I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to be part of a special community and program. I will always be a Husker.”

Domann said on a podcast that he had to get the surgery now so he wouldn’t be at risk to further hurt the hand. He also intends to be healthy for NFL draft workouts following the season.

“I just need to get it done so I can carry on with my football career and do what’s best for me in this moment,” Domann said. “I hope everyone listening and everyone that’s seen me play knows I left everything that I had out on that field and for this program and that just because my season is two games short, doesn’t negate the fact that I gave everything I had and that I want to be out there.”

Domann had 72 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 10 games this season as he returned for a sixth season of eligibility.

Overall, he played in 51 games for Nebraska and had 209 tackles, nine forced fumbles and 5.5 sacks.

The Cornhuskers are 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the Big Ten and have a bye this week. They next play Nov. 20 when they visit Wisconsin.
