Kansas suspended forward Jalen Wilson for one exhibition game and three regular-season games due to his weekend drunk-driving arrest, Jayhawks coach Bill Self told reporters on Tuesday.

Wilson was arrested and booked in jail on suspicion of DUI early Sunday morning, according to multiple reports. He performed a field sobriety test before he was taken into custody.

Wilson will perform community service during his suspension, according to Self.

Wilson apologized in a statement he posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday.

“To my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and Jayhawk Nation — first and foremost, I want to apologize to all of you for my mistake this past weekend,” Wilson wrote. “I accept full responsibility for my actions and am extremely remorseful in my lack of (judgment).

“I know it wouldn’t be fair for me to ask for forgiveness right now, so instead I plan to show you the true man I am and my true character through my actions and behavior moving forward. Again, I am truly sorry.”

The 6-foot-8 Wilson averaged 11.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 29 games (26 starts) last season as a freshman.

Wilson will sit out the final preseason game against Emporia State on Wednesday before missing regular-season games against Michigan State (Nov. 9), Tarleton State (Nov. 12) and Stony Brook (Nov. 18).
