The Pittsburgh Steelers traded pass rusher Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs hours before the trade deadline Tuesday.

The Chiefs confirmed the addition of the 32-year-old outside linebacker via social media.

NFL Network reports the Steelers will receive a 2022 sixth-round draft pick for Ingram, who is being acquired to boost the pass rush for Kansas City.

Ingram signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Steelers at the start of training camp. The Chiefs hosted Ingram on a springtime free agency visit but he did not receive a contract offer. The Miami Dolphins also expressed interest in Ingram during free agency.

But Ingram reportedly had been disgruntled with his role on the Steelers and asked for a trade. He appeared in six games (one start) with Pittsburgh and played on 62 percent of the defensive snaps — a drop from 82 percent last season in his final year with the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I enjoyed working with Melvin,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. “It just didn’t work out the way we envisioned and he envisioned. It’s why we like to build through the draft. It’s hard to get to know players through free agency.”

The Chargers selected Ingram with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Ingram has appeared in 119 games (87 starts), tallying 370 tackles, 50 sacks, three interceptions, 29 passes defensed, 14 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.
