No. 9 seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia rallied from a set and four games down to beat Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to win the VTB Kremlin Cup on Sunday in Moscow.

After dropping the first set, Kontaveit fell behind 0-4 before reeling off seven straight games to turn the tide. Alexandrova recovered and even served for the match at 6-5 in the third set, but Kontaveit rallied to stay perfect in two career matches against her Russian counterpart.

Kontaveit, who improved to 40-15 this year, picked up her third title of 2021 and fourth of her career.

Tenerife Ladies Open

In a matchup of rising stars, American Ann Li held off Colombian teenager Maria Camila Osorio Serrano 6-1, 6-4 in the final in Tenerife, Spain.

Osorio Serrano, who won her maiden title at Bogota earlier this year, was able to save just five of 10 break points in the loss, and converted just two of five of her own break chances.

It’s the first title for Li, who reached her first career final at the Grampians Trophy in Melbourne in January, but scheduling delays prevented it from being played.
