NCAAF: Last-second FG lifts Oregon St. past Huskies

Everett Hayes kicked a 24-yard field goal on the game’s final play as Oregon State defeated visiting Washington 27-24 Saturday night in a Pacific-12 Conference game in Corvallis, Ore.

The Beavers (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) rallied after allowing two touchdowns to Washington (2-3, 1-1) in a 17-second span early in the fourth quarter to fall behind 24-17.

B.J. Baylor, who rushed for a game-high 111 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns, reached the end zone on a 27-yard run with 6:35 remaining to tie the score at 24-24.

Washington quarterback Dylan Morris was stopped on fourth-and-1 from the Huskies’ own 46-yard line with 3:18 remaining.

The Beavers’ Deshaun Fenwick had back-to-back carries of 14 and 12 yards to put the ball on the UW 8-yard line with 1:22 left. Oregon State quarterback Chance Nolan kneeled down twice and rushed for a 5-yard gain to set up the winning kick.

The Huskies’ Sean McGrew rushed for 16 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on a 39-yard run with 10:19 left to tie the score at 17-all.

The Huskies’ Faatui Tuitele sacked Nolan on the next play from scrimmage and forced a fumble, recovered by Sam Taimani and returned 13 yards to the Oregon State 6.

McGrew took a direct snap on the next play and scored on a 6-yard run, giving the UW the lead.

Morris completed 17 of 26 passes for 142 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Nolan was 7 of 15 for just 48 yards with one interception.

The Huskies took the game’s opening kickoff and quickly marched down the field, with Terrell Bynum scoring on a 44-yard pass from Morris.

The Beavers tied it on a 3-yard run by Jack Colletto early in the second quarter.

Oregon State took a 14-7 lead on Baylor’s 5-yard run with 8:25 left in the half.

The Huskies pulled within 14-10 at the intermission on Peyton Henry’s 20-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

The Beavers made it 17-10 on a 29-yard field goal by Hayes with 5:28 left in the third quarter.
