Left-hander Garrett Crochet is “here to stay” after signing a six-year contract extension with the Boston Red Sox worth a reported $170 million.

The Red Sox confirmed the deal was done Tuesday and begins next season. The contract includes an opt out after the 2030 season.

“The Red Sox signed LHP Garrett Crochet to a 6-year contract extension that spans the 2026-2031 seasons,” the team said in a statement without confirming the financial details reported by multiple outlets.

Crochet pitched in 104 games for the Chicago White Sox, posting a 3.29 ERA and 1.155 WHIP. In 2024, Crochet earned his first All-Star selection while posting a 3.58 ERA and career-high 209 strikeouts (seventh-most in the MLB) in 32 starts.

Made available by Chicago at the trade deadline last July, the White Sox were not successful finding a deal to their liking. Crochet, whose salary was $800,000 last season, and his agent reportedly told teams interested in acquiring the breakout left-hander that Crochet would not pitch in the playoffs without a new contract. By the time the deadline arrived, Crochet already had pitched more innings in 2024 than his combined previous career innings total.

When no trade materialized, the 25-year-old finished out the season in Chicago and was shipped to the Red Sox in a blockbuster trade that sent four prospects to the White Sox.

Crochet (0-0, 3.60 ERA) made his Red Sox debut on March 27 against the Texas Rangers. In five innings of a 5-2 win, he allowed two runs and gave up two walks while striking out four. He’s scheduled to start Wednesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
