Iona fired men’s basketball coach Tobin Anderson on Monday after two seasons, ESPN reported.

The Gaels finished 17-17 this season and were 33-34 under Anderson, 53.

Iona’s season ended with a 63-49 loss on Saturday to Mount St. Mary’s in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament final.

Anderson was hired on March 21, 2023, to replace Rick Pitino, who departed to become the head coach at St. John’s.

Anderson led Fairleigh Dickinson to a 21-16 record in his lone season at that school in 2022-23, including a 63-58 upset of top-seeded Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. It was just the second time a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed in tournament history.
