The New Orleans Saints are re-signing edge rusher Chase Young to a three-year, $51 million contract, NFL Network reported Monday. It could reach up to $57 million with incentives.

Young was selected by the Washington Commanders with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He had a big rookie campaign in D.C. with 7.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. He won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

However, Young was limited to only 12 total games across the next two seasons due to injuries. In his limited action, his production declined, posting a combined 1.5 sacks.

In 2023, Young got off to a stronger start with five sacks and 18 quarterback pressures in seven games, then the Commanders dealt him to the San Francisco 49ers. In San Francisco, he had 2.5 sacks and seven quarterback pressures in nine games. He came up with a sack in Super Bowl LVIII.

Last offseason, the Saints signed him to a one-year, $13 million contract. The bet paid off, as Young played all 17 games, recording 5.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss.

The 25-year-old generated constant pressure, racking up a career-high 34 quarterback pressures and 21 quarterback hits, per Pro Football Reference.
