Crystal Dunn is out at Gotham FC after just one season.

The team and the U.S. women’s national team stalwart announced their separation on Tuesday.

“Crystal is an accomplished player who has achieved so much in her career,” Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West said in a statement. “We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career, and we thank her for her contributions to our club.”

Dunn, a native New Yorker, posted on Instagram, “I can’t even find the words to express how incredibly sad I am. Though my journey continues elsewhere, I am at least grateful to have played at home in front of my friends and family for even a short while. I’ll carry those memories with me always. …

“The city of New York will forever be my home, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.”

She added, “Everything happens for a reason, and I’m ready to embrace this next phase of my career with passion, grace, and JOY”

In 23 matches with Gotham (13 starts), Dunn produced one goal and two assists.

Dunn previously played for the Washington Spirit (2014-16), the North Carolina Courage (2018-19) and the Portland Thorns (2021-23). In 146 NWSL matches, she had logged 17 goals and 11 assists, and she was part of championship teams for the Courage in 2018 and 2019 and the Thorns in 2022.

She also helped Chelsea win the Women’s Super League championship in 2017-18.

Usually an attacking player in club soccer, Dunn has held down the left back spot for the USWNT since breaking into the national squad in 2013. She was part of the United States’ World Cup championship team in 2019 and the Olympic gold-medal-winning squad in 2024.

In 155 appearances for the USWNT, Dunn has 25 goals.
