Marco Kasper had two goals and an assist and the host Detroit Red Wings won their third straight by defeating the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 on Monday night.

Lucas Raymond supplied a goal and three assists. Elmer Soderblom scored his first goal of the season and Alex DeBrincat also tallied for Detroit, while Cam Talbot made 24 saves.

Kevin Fiala and Quinton Byfield scored for the Kings, and Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves. The Kings have gone 2-5-1 over their last eight games.

Detroit forwards Patrick Kane and J.T. Compher missed the game due to upper-body injuries and Vladimir Tarasenko sat out due to an illness.

Kasper gave the Red Wings a 4-2 lead with 9:55 left by knocking in his own rebound while getting shoved to the ice. He added an empty-netter in the final seconds.

Los Angeles emerged from the first period with a 2-1 lead.

There was no scoring until Fiala found the back of the net with 5:10 left in the period. He took a shot from near the blue line, which beat a screened Talbot on the glove side. Jordan Spence and Alex Laferriere had the assists.

Then the Kings caught a big break. Dylan Larkin won a faceoff in his zone against Byfield. Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider took a backhanded swipe at the puck and inadvertently tapped it between Talbot’s skate and the goalpost. The “own goal” was credited to Byfield.

Detroit got on the board with some nifty stick work. Kasper fought for his own rebound and made a backhanded pass through Trevor Moore’s legs to Raymond, who scored from the left side with 2:20 remaining in the period. Larkin had the second assist.

The Red Wings took advantage of a 5-on-3 situation to tie the contest at 6:03 of the second period. With Alex Turcotte and Byfield in the penalty box, DeBrincat scored on a one-timer from the left circle off a Raymond feed.

Soderblom gave Detroit the lead with 3:07 left in the period. He banged in a rebound of Christian Fischer’s shot. Albert Johansson also had an assist.
