Linus Ullmark notched a 32-save shutout and Shane Pinto scored two goals as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 on Friday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Nick Jensen provided a goal and an assist for the Senators, who won for the fourth time in five games. Michael Amadio and Nick Cousins had two assists apiece.
Ullmark recorded his second shutout of the season, giving him 10 in his NHL career across 266 games. His career record against Carolina improved to 1-4-1.
The Hurricanes were blanked for the second time this season, with both of those coming across a six-game stretch. Pyotr Kochetkov made 19 saves as Carolina lost for the fifth time in seven games.
The Senators won for only the sixth time in the last 20 meetings with the Hurricanes (6-13-1). They hadn’t won in Raleigh in more than three years.
Ullmark is 5-0-1 across his past six starts.
The 32 shots were the second-most for Carolina in an eight-game stretch.
Pinto took a short pass from Amadio and delivered the game’s first goal from the slot at 4:04 of the second period.
It was the second goal of the season for Pinto, with the other coming in the season opener, although he sat out eight games with an injury. Pinto also ended a 15-game point-free streak.
Jensen scored with 5:15 remaining in the game, also his second of the campaign. Jensen’s other goal came Nov. 7.
Pinto’s second goal went into an empty net with 47 seconds to play. The only previous time Pinto recorded a two-goal game was on Nov. 10, 2022, at New Jersey.
Carolina went 0-for-2 on first-period power plays. The Hurricanes never had another chance on a power play. The Senators also finished scoreless on a pair of man advantages.
Both Ottawa-Carolina games this season have been decided via shutouts, with the Hurricanes winning 4-0 at home on Nov. 16.
