Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the visiting Winnipeg Jets due to back spasms, head coach Lindy Ruff announced.

Dahlin, a defenseman, logged 17:16 of ice time before exiting the Sabres’ 5-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

“It should be short term, but you never know,” Ruff said.

Also on Thursday, the Sabres recalled defenseman Ryan Johnson from Rochester of the American Hockey League.

Dahlin, 24, has 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) and has averaged 24:42 of ice time in 25 games this season.

Signed to an eight-year, $88 million contract, Dahlin has totaled 311 points (72 goals, 239 assists) since being selected by the Sabres with the top overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Johnson, 23, notched five assists in 21 games with the Americans this season.

He has seven assists in 41 career NHL games since being selected by the Sabres with the 31st overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft.
