The Cincinnati Bengals acquired running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears on Tuesday in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Herbert provides depth in the Bengals’ backfield with fellow running back Zack Moss dealing with a neck injury and deemed sidelined indefinitely by head coach Zac Taylor on Monday.
Chase Brown is the leading rusher for the Bengals but came out of a career day against the Raiders last week with bruised ribs. No other running back on the Cincinnati roster has a rushing attempt in 2024.
Herbert, 26, fell out of the RB rotation in Chicago with D’Andre Swift signing and Roschon Johnson emerging as a short-yardage option.
He rushed eight times for 16 yards with a touchdown with the Bears this season. He has rushed for 1,791 yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 45 catches for 291 yards and two scores in 48 career games (12 starts) with the Bears.
Herbert was selected by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech.
