An arrest was made on Tuesday and a felony first-degree murder charge was filed against a man in connection with the September death of former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton.

U.S. Marshals Service worked with the Guilford County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office to facilitate the arrest of Jeremiah Diago Blanks, 20, in Detroit. Blanks was jailed in Pontiac, Mich., pending extradition to North Carolina.

Overton, 26, was shot and killed in his hometown of Greensboro, N.C., on Sept. 7.

Per the Guilford County sheriff’s report, police were responding to a report of a loud party in the wee hours of the morning on Sept. 7 when they were informed of a shooting. Overton died at the scene despite receiving medical attention.

Overton played for Clemson from 2016-19, and he was part of national championship teams as a freshman and a junior. He appeared in 51 games and amassed 52 catches for 777 yards and seven touchdowns.

As a pro, Overton played for the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the USFL/UFL’s Philadelphia Stars and Memphis Showboats.
