Andrew Benintendi’s RBI single in the 10th inning led host Chicago to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday as the White Sox averted a modern major league-record 121st loss in a season for the second straight day.

Jose Quijada (2-1) struck out Luis Robert Jr. to begin the 10th inning before Benintendi’s single to left-center field plated Miguel Vargas to end the game.

Korey Lee launched a two-run homer and Lenyn Sosa added a solo shot for the White Sox (38-120), who remained tied with the expansion 1962 New York Mets for the most single-season losses since 1901.

Chicago has won four in a row at home heading into the finale of its three-game series versus Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.

Jared Shuster (2-4) did not allow a hit over one scoreless inning to record the victory. Quijada, in turn, picked up the loss after yielding one run on one hit in one-third of an inning.

Taylor Ward hit a two-run single in the fourth inning and Michael Stefanic added an RBI single in the eighth for the Angels (63-95), who have lost five of their last six games overall to tie the franchise record for the most defeats in team history. They also lost 95 games in 1968 and 1980.

Sosa deposited a 2-2 changeup from Jose Suarez over the wall in left field to give Chicago a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. Sosa’s homer was his seventh of the season and third in his last eight games.

The slim advantage held up until Stefanic’s bunt single plated Eric Wagaman to tie the game in the eighth inning.

Chicago opened the scoring in the second inning after Sosa ripped a lead-off double and Lee sent a first-pitch changeup from Suarez over the wall in left field. Lee’s homer was his 12th of the season and second in his last three games.

Los Angeles forged a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning after Ward’s single to center field plated Gustavo Campero and Matt Thaiss.
