Great Britain’s Lando Norris rode the pole position to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, moving closer to the top of the Formula One drivers season standings with his third win of the year.

Norris defeated current leader Max Verstappen by 20 seconds at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, shaving seven points off Verstappen’s lead, closing it to 331-279. At the same time, Norris’ wire-to-wire victory increased McLaren’s lead in the constructor standings to 41 points over Red Bull, 516-475.

Norris, 24, maintained the pole over Verstappen, who finished second in qualifying as he took the first turn. After that, Norris set the pace for the rest of the field, leading all 62 laps, with the rest of the field battling for the other two spots on the podium.

Verstappen finished second, followed by Oscar Piastri (McLaren), George Russell (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).

Norris scraped the wall twice, but his car sustained only minimal damage and he was able to continue.

“It was an amazing race,” Norris said. “A few too many close calls. I had a couple of little moments in the middle, but it was well controlled I think, otherwise.

“The car was mega. I could push and we were flying the whole race. It was a nice race. Still tough, I’m a bit out of breath, but very fun one.”

The season has six remaining races, and the F1 circuit is headed toward the Americas.

The next four races will be held in Austin, Texas (Oct. 20), Mexico City (Oct. 27), Sao Paulo, Brazil (Nov. 3) and Las Vegas (Nov. 23) before concluding in Qatar (Dec. 1) and Abu Dhabi (Dec. 8).
