Pittsburgh Steelers punter Cameron Johnston sustained a season-ending knee injury in Sunday’s win at Atlanta, NFL Network reported Monday.

Johnston, who also serves as the holder for kicker Chris Boswell, was hurt when a Falcons player fell into his kicking leg late in the fourth quarter.

After a penalty on the Steelers nullified that play, Boswell replaced Johnston and got off a 43-yard punt. Pittsburgh does not have another punter on the roster or practice squad.

Johnston, 32, who signed a three-year, $9 million contract in the offseason, averaged 51.5 yards on two punts in the season-opening 18-10 win over the Falcons.

Johnston played three seasons each with the Philadelphia Eagles (2018-20) and Houston Texans (2021-23) before joining the Steelers. He led the NFL in punts (88) and total yardage (4,108) in 2021.
