Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper departed Wednesday afternoon’s game against the host Toronto Blue Jays due to a left elbow contusion.

Harper underwent treatment during the team’s 4-2 wiin over the Blue Jays and told reporters afterward that the elbow is feeling better.

Harper was hit on the elbow with a fastball from Toronto right-hander Bowden Francis in the first inning.

Harper stayed in the game until Edmundo Sosa pinch-hit for him in the third inning.

Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson termed the decision to remove Harper as “more precautionary.”

“Needed to get some treatment on him because (the elbow) was stiffening up a little bit. But as of right now, I think he’s fine.” Thomson said.

Harper has already been playing through injuries to his right elbow and right wrist.

Harper, 31, is batting .282 with 26 homers and 76 RBIs this season.
