Philadelphia Eagles veteran defensive back James Bradberry is expected to miss approximately six-to-eight weeks after sustaining a lower leg injury in Wednesday’s practice, multiple outlets reported.

Bradberry is not expected to require surgery, however the injury reportedly involves a tendon. The Eagles placed the former Pro Bowl cornerback on injured reserve Thursday.

Also on Thursday, the Eagles promoted linebacker Oren Burks to the 53-man roster.

Bradberry, 31, willingly shuffled from cornerback to safety this summer under new Eagles coordinator Vic Fangio after a poor season in coverage.

Bradberry was a second-team All-Pro and scored the top coverage grade under Pro Football Focus evaluations in 2022. He had his worst year in the NFL in 2023, however, giving up a career-high 11 touchdown passes and a 114.3 passer rating when targeted. He allowed two TD passes and a QB rating under 50 in 2022.

Bradberry has totaled 478 tackles, 19 interceptions, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 125 career games (124 starts) with the Carolina Panthers (2016-19), New York Giants (2020-21) and Eagles.

Burks, 29, had 46 tackles, one sack and one interception in 15 games (five starts) last season with the San Francisco 49ers. He has totaled 176 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 91 career games (15 starts) with the Green Bay Packers (2018-21) and 49ers (2022-23).
