Jake Davis and Daniel Salloi scored goals just before and just after halftime, and Sporting Kansas City added a short-handed goal in second-half stoppage time in defeating Orlando City SC 3-0 on Saturday night in Kansas City, Kan.

Sporting KC (7-14-6, 27 points), which was playing in retro uniforms that featured their original Kansas City Wizards logo, managed to thrive playing a man down for the final 32 minutes.

Orlando City (9-10-7, 34 points) took their fifth road loss of the season (6-5-3).

Leading 1-0 at halftime, Sporting KC doubled the lead early in the second half. Erik Thommy slipped a nifty pass to a hard-charging Salloi, who one-timed it past Orlando keeper Pedro Gallese in the 52nd minute.

Orlando City appeared to pull within one goal in the 65th minute when Ramiro Enrique slid one past SKC keeper Tim Melia, but the play was ruled offside.

Sporting’s Willy Agada was shown a straight red card in the 70th minute for a serious foul, but Orlando City failed to capitalize.

Remi Walter scored in the second minute of the 12-minute stoppage time.

Sporting KC was on the attack from the first play of the match. Thommy launched the opening kickoff toward the goal, going just over the reach of Gallese but also just over the crossbar.

Both sides then settled into a back-and-forth match, with neither team mounting much of a scoring threat.

Sporting had its best chance in the 27th minute, when Thommy collected a pass deep in the Orlando end and fired a right-footed shot. Gallese made a leaping save.

Sporting had two more late chances in the first half. Thommy’s attempt in the 40th minute sailed just to the left of the goal, and Agada’s sliding attempt three minutes later was just high.

Davis connected in the 44th minute. After a scrum outside the box, Davis picked up a loose ball and dribbled through the Orlando defense to the left side of the box before firing a shot from close range past Gallese.
