The San Francisco Giants placed rookie right-hander Randy Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list on Thursday because of right elbow inflammation.

The move is retroactive to Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled rookie right-hander Spencer Bivens from Triple-A Sacramento.

Rodriguez, 24, last pitched Tuesday and took the loss in a 4-3, 10-inning defeat to the visiting Atlanta Braves. He allowed one unearned run on one hit in the 10th inning.

After making his major league debut on May 4, the native of the Dominican Republic is 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA, 16 walks and 52 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings over 33 games (one start).

Bivens, 30, made his major league debut on June 16. He is 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA, six walks and 18 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings over 11 games (one start) for San Francisco.
