Pittsburgh Pirates designated hitter Andrew McCutchen departed Saturday night’s 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks due to left quad tightness, the team said.

The Pirates said McCutchen is day-to-day.

McCutchen left in the sixth inning after hitting a single to left field. He was injured while running to first base.

“When I got down there, he didn’t think it was bad,” Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton said of McCutchen. “But, we’re not going to take any chances there and we were able to get him out.”

McCutchen, who went 1-for-3 before departing, is a five-time All-Star and was National League MVP in 2013. He is batting .228 with 13 homers and 31 RBIs in 94 games this season.
