The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired left-hander Josh Walker from the New York Mets on Tuesday in exchange for minor league southpaw Nicolas Carreno.

Walker, 29, was designated for assignment last week after posting a 5.11 ERA with no decisions in 10 relief appearances for the Mets. The Pirates said he will report to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The former 37th-round draft pick in 2017 made his Mets debut in 2023 and has a career record of 0-1 with a 6.45 ERA in 24 games (zero starts).

Carreno, 18, signed with Pittsburgh last year out of Venezuela. He is 0-1 with a 3.74 ERA in eight starts this season in the Dominican Summer League.
