Atlanta United transferred homegrown defender Caleb Wiley to Chelsea of the Premier League on Monday.

Multiple outlets reported the transfer fee for the 19-year-old U.S. international was $11 million.

Other reports indicated that Chelsea planned to loan Wiley to Strasbourg in France’s Ligue 1. Chelsea and Strasbourg have the same owner.

“Caleb epitomizes the pathway that we envisioned when we started this club,” Atlanta vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a release. “Born and raised in Atlanta, he joined our Academy at 11 years old, played for ATL UTD 2 and went on to earn every step in his path up to signing as a homegrown.

“… We wish Caleb the best in this next challenge of his career and look forward to following his journey. For our club moving forward, we’re continuing our efforts to immediately reinvest in the team during the Summer Transfer Window.”

Wiley recorded six goals and seven assists in 77 MLS matches (67 starts) with Atlanta from 2022-24, including one goal and one assist in 21 starts this season.

Wiley is a member of the Team USA roster for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
