The Oakland Athletics placed shortstop Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list Sunday because of a left hamstring strain suffered in his major league debut on Friday.

He is the organization’s top prospect.

In a corresponding move, the Athletics activated infielder Abraham Toro from the 10-day IL following his recovery from a right hamstring strain.

Wilson singled in his first at-bat against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning of Friday’s 13-3 victory, but he began limping badly as he approached home plate as he scored on Lawrence Butler’s triple.

An MRI revealed the hamstring strain and the move was made retroactive to Saturday. Wilson hoped to continue playing but was replaced and also held out of Saturday’s game.

“It was pretty horrible,” Wilson said of exiting Friday’s game early. “This is a day you work for your entire life and look forward to for a long time. I had three innings and got the base hit, which was the high moment of my life. Rounding third, I felt something. … Hopefully, it’s not too serious.”

Wilson, 22, is No. 50 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He was Oakland’s first pick of the draft last year, going sixth overall, and earned a quick promotion by hitting .401 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 284 minor league at-bats bridging the 2023 and ‘24 seasons.

Toro, 27, is batting .260 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 73 games in his first season with Oakland.
