The New York Yankees activated infielder J.D. Davis in advance of a two-game series against his former club, the New York Mets.

Davis takes the roster spot of infielder/outfielder Oswald Peraza, who was optioned to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes Barre on Sunday.

Davis, 31, was acquired in a trade from the Oakland Athletics on Sunday for infielder Jordan Groshans. An eight-year major league veteran, Davis was batting .236 with four home runs and five RBIs in 39 games for Oakland this season.

The Yankees are searching for offense with both first baseman Anthony Rizzo (arm fracture) and outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) on the injured list. Davis has 17 starts at first base this season and 11 starts at third.

In eight seasons, Davis is a career .259 hitter with 72 home runs and 220 RBIs in 633 games with four clubs, including a .278 batting average over four seasons with the Mets, with 37 home runs and 120 RBIs. He hit 22 home runs with 57 RBIs in 2019 for the Mets.
