New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left hamstring strain.

A trip to the injured list is familiar for Stanton, who landed on the IL for the eighth time in six seasons.

Stanton extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Saturday after he hit a double to lead off the fourth inning against the Atlanta Braves. He scored on a double by Gleyber Torres to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead, however he slowed up and grimaced after rounding third base.

Stanton was replaced by Trent Grisham when his turn in the order came up in the sixth inning.

“Obviously he’s dealt with these kind of things in the past,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “So hopefully it’s not something that keeps him down too long.”

Stanton, 34, is batting .246 with 18 homers and 45 RBIs in 69 games this season.

The 2017 National League MVP with the Miami Marlins, Stanton has seen a variety of injuries since being traded to the Yankees before the 2018 season. He has been sidelined by a strained right biceps and strained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, strained left hamstring, strained left quadriceps, right ankle inflammation, left Achilles tendinitis and a strained left hamstring during that stretch.

He was limited to a combined 41 games in the 2019 and ’20 seasons. Stanton is earning $32 million this season as part of the 13-year, $325 million deal with the Marlins on Nov. 17, 2014.

Also Sunday, the Yankees recalled infielder Oswald Peraza from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He is batting .180 with four homers and 14 RBIs in 35 games this season spread over three levels of minor league baseball.
