The Los Angeles Angels moved right-handed starting pitcher Jose Soriano onto the 15-day injured list on Thursday due to an abdomen infection.

The move was retroactive to Monday.

Soriano was scratched from a start Monday due to pain in his abdomen. The team initially was hopeful Soriano would not need an IL stint.

Zach Plesac, recently recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake, could fill in for Soriano’s next turn in the rotation on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Soriano, 25, moved from the Angels’ bullpen to their rotation in his second season in the big leagues. In 14 appearances (12 starts) in 2024, he has gone 4-5 with a 3.48 ERA, recording 60 strikeouts and 28 walks in 72 1/3 innings.

In another move, infielder Cole Tucker was outrighted to Triple-A. Tucker appeared in 24 games for the Angels this year and batted .180 with three RBIs and three stolen bases.
