CSGO: Complexity start hot at YaLLa Compass

Complexity Gaming hold sole possession of first place in Group B after the opening day of the YaLLa Compass event on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Complexity won both of their Wednesday matches, as did both Ninjas in Pyjamas and The MongolZ in Group A.

The $400,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event features 12 teams separated into two groups for round-robin play consisting of best-of-one matches. The first-place team in each group heads to the playoff semifinals, the second-place team in each group goes to the playoff quarterfinals as a high seed and the third-place team in each group qualifies for the playoff quarterfinals as a low seed.

The single-elimination playoffs will consist of best-of-three matches. The winner of the grand final on Sunday will earn $200,000.

The United States’ Michael “Grim” Wince produced 23 kills and teammate Hakon “hallzerk” Fjaerli of Norway had a plus-5 kill-death differential while leading Complexity to a 16-13 overtime win against Eternal Fire on Anubis. Engin “MAJ3R” Kupeli led Eternal Fire’s all-Turkish squad with 25 kills and a plus-9 K-D differential.

Complexity then routed BIG 13-5 on Inferno behind 18 kills and a plus-9 K-D differential from the United States’ Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski.

Elsewhere in Group B, BIG beat FURIA Esports 13-3 on Ancient, BetBoom Team topped Fnatic 13-7 on Ancient, FURIA Esports routed BetBoom Team 13-1 on Nuke, Fnatic dumped Eternal Fire 13-5 on Inferno and BetBoomTeam handled BIG 13-9 on Ancient.

Ninjas in Pyjamas got past ENCE 13-6 on Vertigo, then defeated HEROIC 13-10 on Ancient. Ukraine’s Artem “r1nkle” Moroz logged a total of 37 kills for Ninjas in Pyjamas in the two victories.

The MongolZ squeezed past Sashi Esport 16-14 on Mirage, then topped ENCE 13-7 on Nuke. Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold led the all-Mongolian squad with 44 total kills.

In other Group A matches, Astralis defeated HEROIC 13-6 on Nuke, Sashi Esport beat Astralis 13-8 on Nuke, and ENCE blew out Sashi Esport 13-4 on Mirage.
