The Boston Red Sox placed second baseman Vaughn Grissom and infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list on Sunday because of hamstring strains.

In corresponding moves, the Red Sox selected infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook and recalled infielder/outfielder Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Worcester.

Grissom missed the first 32 games of the season because of a left hamstring strain in spring training. He injured his right hamstring running out a grounder in the bottom of the second inning in the 6-3 home win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.

“(Grissom) is actually getting an MRI to see where we’re at,” manager Alex Cora said Sunday before the team played the Tigers. “We don’t expect Romy’s to be that long.”

Cora said it’s too early to tell how long Grissom will be sidelined.

“He feels like it wasn’t as bad as in spring training,” Cora said. “But he’s getting imaging so we’ll know.”

Grissom, 23, is batting .148 (12-for-81) with three RBIs in 23 games. The Red Sox obtained him in a Dec. 30, 2023, trade with the Atlanta Braves for left-hander Chris Sale and cash to offset part of Sale’s salary.

Gonzalez didn’t injure his left hamstring on a specific play, Cora said.

“Just felt tight (Saturday),” Cora said. “He wasn’t a go today. It was going to take a few days. So we needed to make the move.”

Gonzalez, 27, is batting .257 (9-for-35) with six RBIs in 17 games in his first season with Boston. The Red Sox selected him off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Jan. 31.

Westbrook, 28, received his first promotion to the major leagues after 1,159 games in the minors dating back to 2013. He was batting .267 with five homers and 29 RBIs in 49 games at Worcester.

Dalbec, 28, is hitting .132 (7-for-53) with four RBIs in 22 games this season in Boston. He has eight homers and 21 RBIs in 26 games at Worcester.

In another transaction, Boston placed right-hander Garrett Whitlock on the 60-day IL. Whitlock, 27, had season-ending surgery on his UCL on Wednesday.
