The New York Mets sent right-hander Christian Scott and third baseman Brett Baty to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Also Friday, the Mets purchased the contract of veteran infielder Jose Iglesias, recalled right-hander Dedniel Nunez, acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the Yankees and designated catcher Omar Narvaez for assignment.

The move involving Scott is expected to be short term as the team attempts to control his workload while also navigating a stretch of extra days off due to their upcoming games in London.

Scott, 24, has posted a 0-2 record with a 3.90 ERA in five starts this season. He has struck out 25 batters in 27 2/3 innings.

Baty, 24, is batting just .225 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 49 games. Prospect Mark Vientos will see additional playing time in his absence.

“This is a tough one. There’s no easy solution here,” Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said recently. “I do think we have two players who deserve to be in the big leagues, and that’s why they’re both here right now.

“I’ve also been consistent that this present roster construction cannot last in perpetuity. At some point we’re going to have to get slightly more conventional. But we have two guys who I think have demonstrated they really deserve to be in the big leagues.”

Iglesias, 34, last played in the majors with the Colorado Rockies in 2022. He is a career .279 with 47 homers and 366 RBIs in 1,096 games with six teams.

Nunez, 27, had a 3.24 ERA without a decision in five relief appearances with New York earlier this season.

Torrens, 28, was acquired for cash. He never played in the major leagues for the Yankees and is a career .227 hitter with 19 home runs and 79 RBIs in 269 games over six seasons for the San Diego Padres (2017, 2019-20), Seattle Mariners (2020-23) and Chicago Cubs (2023).

Narvaez, 32, batted .154 with five RBIs in 28 games with the Mets this season.
