UFL: UFL roundup: Renegades dominate Showboats for first win

Luis Perez threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns as the Arlington Renegades turned six total TDs into a 47-23 victory over the visiting Memphis Showboats on Saturday to become the final UFL team to win a game this season.

J.P. Payton and Sal Cannella each caught two touchdown passes, while De’Veon Smith had 101 yards rushing with two more scores as the Renegades (1-6) gained 415 yards of total offense to 312 for the Showboats. Cannella had nine receptions for 72 yards.

Troy Williams had 127 yards passing and one TD with one interception for Memphis (1-6) and added 34 yards rushing with another TD. Case Cookus added 103 yards passing and one TD with one interception for Memphis.

Arlington turned a 19-point second quarter into a 25-9 lead at halftime and put the game away in the third quarter when Smith scored from 1 yard out and Payton caught a 33-yard TD pass from Perez.

The Renegades’ defense forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks as linebacker Will Clarke was credited with 1.5 of those sacks.

Stallions 30, Battlehawks 26

Adrian Martinez threw a go-ahead 40-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Austin Jr. with 5:23 left to send host Birmingham past St. Louis.

Martinez finished with 230 yards and three TDs on 21-of-33 passing for the Stallions, who improved to a perfect 7-0. Martinez was also his team’s leading rusher with 60 yards on seven carries.

The Battlehawks (5-2) did most of their damage on the ground, with Jacob Saylors rushing for 38 yards and a pair of scores on 10 touches. AJ McCarron completed 19 of 32 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Saylors found the end zone with 7:34 to go to put St. Louis up 26-23 before Martinez found Austin.
