Four of five players scored in double figures as Wizards District Gaming handed Cavs Legion GC their first loss in the NBA 2K League’s 5v5 The Tipoff event on Saturday, winning 57-52.
In the day’s other game, Hawks Talon GC beat Hornets Venom GT 80-65, improving the Hawks to 2-1 while dropping the Hornets to 2-2.
The Tipoff is the first of three tournaments that lead up to the NBA 2K League 5v5 Playoffs that run from June 26-29. The Tipoff runs through May 25, followed by The Turn (May 29-June 15) and The Ticket (June 18 and 22).
76ers GC won The Tipoff in 2023, defeating T-Wolves Gaming in the championship game. The Hornets won The Turn and Knicks Gaming won The Ticket in 2023, before Warriors Gaming Squad won The Playoffs to take the 2023 season championship.
On Saturday, Justin “Just_Awkward” Howell led the Wizards (2-1) with 14 points, while Benzo “Benzo” Bernstein collected 10 points and 14 rebounds. Malik “Slaughter” Leisinger of Cavs Legion (2-1) led all scorers with 24 points.
The Hawks turned a tie game at halftime into a runaway with a dominant 24-15 third quarter. The Hawks’ Mark David “MDS” Smith scored 30 points and assisted on eight more buckets in the win. Kingsley “Crown” Braggs led the Hornets with 24 points.
