Washington Nationals All-Star right-hander Josiah Gray missed his scheduled start on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants, instead being placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow/forearm flexor strain.

Gray, 26, was the Nationals’ Opening Day starter but has been hit hard in two starts, going 0-2 with a 14.04 ERA, five walks, nine strikeouts, 15 hits and 13 runs in 8 1/3 innings.

An All-Star selection in 2023, Gray had not been on the injured list in his three-plus seasons. A second-round selection by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2018 MLB Draft, Gray has a career record of 17-27 with a 4.84 ERA in 386 2/3 innings over 74 games (73 starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2021) and Nationals (2021-present).

In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Nationals recalled right-hander Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester and will start him in Gray’s place.

Adon, 25, is 3-16 with a 6.66 ERA, 66 walks and 112 strikeouts in 121 2/3 innings over 27 games (25 starts) in 2021-23 with the Nationals.
