Defenseman Jakob Chychrun capped a two-goal performance by scoring on the power play with 3:03 left in the third period, fueling the host Ottawa Senators to a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson each collected a goal and two assists and Parker Kelly scored into the empty net. Joonas Korpisalo turned aside 33 shots for the Senators (30-36-4, 64 points), who overcame Zach Hyman’s 50th goal of the season.

Edmonton defenseman Evan Bouchard set up three goals to extend his assist streak to seven games. He also set up three goals in the Oilers’ 3-1 win over the Senators on Jan. 6.

Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl extended his goal-scoring streak to four games and Adam Henrique also tallied.

Captain Connor McDavid had two assists and Calvin Pickard made 11 saves for the Oilers (42-23-4, 88 points), who have dropped two in a row after posting a 9-1-2 record in their previous 12 games.

Chychrun converted a cross-slot feed by unleashing a blast past Pickard to give Ottawa a 4-3 lead.

Draisaitl’s sharp-angle shot from below the dot in the right faceoff circle sailed over the shoulder of Korpisalo and into the net to give Edmonton a 2-1 lead at 1:38 of the second period. Draisaitl’s goal was his 37th of the season.

The Oilers doubled their advantage soon after as Hyman tapped home McDavid’s feed on the doorstep. Hyman (31 years, 289 days) became the third-oldest player in NHL history at the time of his first 50-goal season, trailing only Hall of Famers Johnny Bucyk (35 years, 308 days) and Joe Mullen (32 years, 33 days).

Stutzle accepted a stretch pass and beat Pickard at 4:48 of the second and Batherson’s wrist shot from the left circle forged a tie at 3 with 3:30 left in the period.

Henrique converted at the right post to open the scoring 3:49 into the first period before Batherson’s saucer pass from along the goal line was hammered home by Chychrun at 5:37.
