Cincinnati Reds second baseman Matt McLain is being evaluated for a shoulder injury that could require surgery.

Manager David Bell said Wednesday that “all of the options are on the table” after an MRI on McLain’s left shoulder.

Bell said those options include surgery for the second-year infielder, who likely will begin the season on the injured list.

McLain, 24, made his MLB debut in 2023 and batted .290 with 16 homers, 50 RBIs and 14 steals in 89 games.

Cincinnati drafted McLain in the first round (17th overall) in 2021 out of UCLA.
