Cloud9 opened the League Championship Series Spring Split playoffs with a 3-0 blowout of 100 Thieves on Thursday.
The victory sends Cloud9 through to the upper-bracket semifinals, where they will oppose either FlyQuest or Team Liquid on March 23. The latter two teams will contest the other upper-bracket semifinal on Friday.
Cloud9 rolled to Thursday victories in 34 minutes on red, 28 minutes on red and 25 minutes on blue. Australia’s Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami paced Cloud9 with a 17-1-12 kill-death-assist ratio. South Korea’s Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung — the top player in the group stage with MVP honors — led 100 Thieves with a 9-10-8 K-D-A ratio.
100 Thieves drop into the lower bracket, where they will face NRG on Saturday. The FlyQuest-Team Liquid loser will square off with Dignitas in the lower bracket on Sunday.
The Spring Split playoff champion and runner-up will be the North American League of Legends circuit’s representatives in the Mid-Season Invitational, scheduled for May 1-19 in China. The LCS winner heads to the MSI main draw, while the second-place team will compete in the MSI’s play-in event.
