Creighton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott signed a long-term contract extension on Friday.

The private university did not announce financial terms or contract length, but McDermott said he expects Omaha, Neb., to be last stop of his coaching journey.

“There is no place I would rather be for the rest of my career than Creighton,” McDermott, 59, said in a news release.

“My staff and I are fortunate to work with outstanding student-athletes and we will continue to create an environment that allows them to excel both on the court and in the classroom. We are proud to play in front of the best fans in the country and I am excited to build upon the positive trajectory of our program.”

No. 10 Creighton heads into its regular-season finale on Saturday against Villanova with a 22-8 overall record, 13-6 in the Big East.

McDermott has coached the Bluejays since the 2010-11 season, and his previous contract was scheduled to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season.

The Bluejays are poised to make the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

McDermott took Creighton to its first Elite Eight in program history in 2023, losing to national runner-up San Diego State.

Creighton has reached eight NCAA tournaments under McDermott and it would have been nine if not for the 2020 tournament being canceled due to the pandemic; Creighton won the regular season Big East crown and went 24-7 that season.

McDermott has a 322-158 record over 14 seasons in Omaha and has won at least 20 games in 13 of them.

He previously was the head coach at Northern Iowa (2001-06) and Iowa State (2006-10) and has an overall record of 471-289 (.620).
