The New York Rangers acquired center Alex Wennberg from the Seattle Kraken for two draft picks, Rangers general manager Chris Drury announced on Wednesday.

Seattle will receive a 2024 second-round pick and a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick from the Rangers.

Wennberg’s three-year, $13.5 million concludes after this season. Seattle agreed to pay half of the remaining amount of this season’s salary.

The Kraken held Wennberg out of Monday’s game against the Calgary Flames while working to find a deal for him prior to Friday’s trade deadline.

The Swede has 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 60 games this season.

The 14th overall draft pick by the Blue Jackets in 2013, he has played for Columbus, the Florida Panthers and Kraken. Wennberg has tallied 330 points (90 goals, 240 assists) in 693 games and was a member of the original Kraken expansion roster in the 2021-22 season.

The Rangers were seeking reinforcements after losing Filip Chytil and Blake Wheeler to season-ending injuries.
