Shayne Gostisbehere scored twice and the streaking Detroit Red Wings had a season high in goals as they thumped the visiting Washington Capitals 8-3 on Tuesday night.

Lucas Raymond had a goal and two assists as Detroit won its sixth straight. Joe Veleno, J.T. Compher and Dylan Larkin each had a goal and an assist. Robby Fabbri and Alex DeBrincat also scored.

Patrick Kane and David Perron added two assists apiece, and Alex Lyon stopped 18 shots. Kane extended his point streak to nine games.

Hendrix Lapierre, Michael Sgarbossa and Max Pacioretty scored for the Capitals. Charlie Lindgren made 23 saves.

Detroit took the lead at 5:45 of the first period. Veleno passed the puck to Gostisbehere, who ripped a slap shot from the right circle. The puck sailed over Lindgren’s left shoulder and inside the crossbar for Gostisbehere’s first goal in 25 games.

Moments after Fabbri had an apparent goal disallowed, Raymond made it 2-0 at 16:20 of the period with a shot in front beyond Lindgren’s left skate.

Washington got on the board at 2:09 of the second period. Alex Ovechkin nudged the puck to Lapierre, whose shot eluded Lyon’s stick.

Detroit restored a two-goal lead less than three minutes later. Perron made a steal in the Capitals’ zone and sent the puck to Veleno. He skated into the slot and went top shelf for his 11th goal.

Just after the Capitals killed off a penalty, the Red Wings upped their lead to 4-1. Set up by Raymond, Gostisbehere scored from the slot with another rising shot. It was his ninth goal of the season.

Sgarbossa scored with 3:22 remaining in the period with a shot from the right side past Lyon, who was out of position. John Carlson was credited with an assist.

With 13 seconds left in the period, Compher fired in a short-handed goal off a feed from Andrew Copp for a 5-2 Red Wings lead.

Fabbri scored on the power play early in the third, tipping in a pass from Kane. Pacioretty’s goal also came on a power play.

Goals by DeBrincat and Larkin completed the blowout.
