Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu will be sidelined a week to 10 days due to a sprained left big toe sustained in Monday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls.
The Hawks said Okongwu underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday that confirmed the ailment.
Okongwu had 11 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes before exiting with 3:58 left in the fourth quarter of the 136-126 home loss to the Bulls. He is averaging 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in 53 games (eight starts) this season.
Usual starting center Clint Capela remains sidelined with a left adductor strain. He will sit out for the sixth straight game when the Hawks visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.
Capela is averaging 11.5 points and a team-leading 10.6 rebounds in 47 games (all starts). The club said Capela is expected to return to practice following the All-Star break.
Guards AJ Griffin and Wesley Matthews also will sit out Wednesday due to illnesses.
