The New York Yankees claimed former first-round draft pick Jordan Groshans off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

New York designated left-handed pitcher Matt Krook for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster.

Groshans, 24, is an infielder who played 17 games at third base for Miami in 2022. He batted .262 in those games with one home run and two RBIs.

The 12th overall pick in the 2018 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, Groshans spent the entire 2023 season at Triple-A Jacksonville. He batted .243 with six home runs, 20 doubles and 60 RBIs in 125 games.

Krook, 29, made his major league debut last June and made four appearances out of the bullpen for the Yankees, allowing 11 earned runs over four innings for a 24.75 ERA. The Yankees recently added a lefty reliever by trading for Caleb Ferguson from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
