After an 18-month absence, Daniel Berger is set to make his return next week as the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing begins in the California desert.

Berger, who has not played since the 2022 U.S. Open because of back issues, is in the field for The American Express at La Quinta, Calif.

In addition to a lower disc issue in his back, the 30-year-old Berger had been dealing with deep bone sensitivity issues, according to Golf Digest.

A four-time winner on the PGA Tour, Berger played for the United States Ryder Cup team in 2019 and helped his side to a 19-9 victory over Europe. Berger went 2-1-0 during his three matches at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisc.

A Florida native, Berger’s most recent PGA Tour victory came at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2021. He also is a back-to-back winner at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2016 and 2017. He has four top-10 finishes in a major, including a tie for sixth in the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, N.Y.
